For the past six months we have been talking about dues increase for association members. In today's economy, where everything has gone up exponentially, the executive board ask the Director's and reps to take back to the clubs the idea of a dues increase. The AWSC is not bankrupt, nor are we broke. However, we cannot continue on the path we are on. Historically we have borrowed from these reserves approximately $30,000 a year for at least the past 11 years. We have always managed to put that money back into the reserves yet have never added to them. As an organization we need to be responsible enough to make sure that we are in good financial standing before something happens.
My article in the March magazine explained what revenue we can use as operational expenses. That is membership dues and our two raffles: the $100 cash raffle and our new calendar raffle. This past year 40 of the $100 raffle tickets went unsold. That is a huge amount when you are trying to stay within a budget. We also have several accounts that cannot be used for our operating budget. These accounts would consist of KAOS, Scholarship, Next Gen as well as others. The revenue for these accounts is generated from fundraising or donations; thus all monies are ear marked specifically for those purposes.
The weekend of March 29 & 30, 2025 in Green Bay the Director's and Reps voted to increase AWSC dues by $5.00 or $17.00 per family. Many other figures were looked at, but the median was $5,00. As the executive board we will continue to look at ways to keep costs as low as we can. However, at this time rent, utilities, office supplies, IT and legal and lobbying have gone up as well. We are currently working on some legislation to up trail pass fees.
Thank you,
Lori Heideman, AWSC President
